SUPER DECATHLON
The conclusion of our super review – the trials and tribulations – and eventual success – of putting a big model together are revealed in the second part of our Hacker Super Decathlon overview and she’s a big beautiful model. Some modifications to the radio installation were applied following the original build and we now think we have the best system out there.

SUPER SILVERLIT from FLYING TOYS
Bruce Corfe takes his little box of delights all the way to Australia, where he assembled and flew five of the latest gems of micro R/C aviation from renowned perfectionists, Silverlit. These products just get better and better and how pleasant to see some blue sky in the pictures too – they certainly have better weather down under!

ALIGN TREX 600CF – reviewed by Greg Butterworth
Align helicopters are now firmly established at the quality end of the market and the 600CF proved a formidably capable machine when put together by our resident expert. Greg has built and flown many fine helicopters and is a difficult man to impress these days, but this one really hits the spot, with ‘quality’ the overriding impression left, allied to terrific flight performance. Essential reading if you’re about to splash out on a big electric machine!

REACH MODELS HAPPY BOY
The Happy Boy is a pretty little sports aerobatic job with disarmingly good looks, combined with a practicality that’s hard to beat. Float equipped as ourS was, or just flown from the flat, the Happy Boy ticks all the boxes, with sound construction, good hardware and 15 minute flight times from a 3S 1200 or thereabouts Lipo – epoxy glass float kit and available as a low or high winger. This one is just great fun as you’ll see!

FREE FLIGHT NATIONALS – full report from Trevor Grey
This years F/F Nat’s was a breezy Barkston affair, which nonetheless, saw the event succeed, albeit with two minute maxes set to contain the models within the boundaries of Barkson’s huge arena, not always successfully we might add. Great pictures from Mike Evatt, Mike Woodhouse, Alex Whittaker and June O’Donnell.

STONEHENGE CUP 2008 – report from Mike Evatt
Mike reports on this F/F World Cup event and provides an update on current standings. The event started with flat calm conditions that set the scene for the entire weekend – great pictures and full details of the weekend including results.

MIND THE LINES – Mike Parry
Aeromodeller wouldn’t be the magazine it is without Mike’s cheery contribution – for fans of circular flight, Mike’s glorious photography allied to his enthusiasm for control line flying in this, the era of radio control, makes for a fascinating read. Carrier Deck – Speed – Fast Combat (is there any other sort….Ed) and the usual smattering of vintage and contemporary Stunt models make this months column eclectic!

FOR OLD TIMES SAKE – Don Howie
From ‘down under’ – Don looks at World Championship winners from half a century back – casts his eye over a Taipan 2.5cc rear rotary engine from his own neck of the woods and champions a dieselised Cox .049. As always – a great read with lots of nostalgia and character in these pages.

CATCH EM YOUNG – Stephen Herbert
Books and magazines are our business, but Stephen has found some gems that even we were not aware of, these dating from almost a century back in many instances, so if you want to seen where aeromodelling originated in all it’s guises, this feature gives a real insight into ‘the way we were’ – who say’s nostalgia isn’t what it once was!

SCALE MATTERS – Bill Dennis
This month Bill looks at getting his fleet airborne in rather calmer conditions after a windswept and blown out Nats! The following weekend saw Barkston sunny and warm with perfect conditions, facilitating some test flying and trimming of new models – isn’t that always the way?

SPLASHING AROUND – Alasdair Sutherland
Waterborne fun from Kilbirnie Loch – float design and solutions to the sticky problem of models that refuse to unstick and leave the water as intended. It’s all about float design and the devil is, as always, in the detail – Alasdair shows how, with nice drawings allied to real life practical examples and success stories!

TALKING ELECTRICS – Andrew Gibbs
This month’s offerings from our resident electric flight guru, cover a couple of interesting readers questions from which all may learn a bit more about eletric model flying technique – a very nice HP Halifax which really looks the part and a host of useful data that will ease your electric flight conundrums – if you have a question, Andrew is always on hand to help you out!

THINK OF A NUMBER – Part 4 – David Baxter
By now, you will have amassed a considerable bank of material from David’s excellent series and this month he takes us through some detailed aspects of aerofoil and wing design, showing how the drag builds, leading to a complete model. Camber, wing loading – speed and drag, all familiar terms that culminate in total drag, which is a crucial decider for any model. This series builds into a library of documents that will prove invaluable for those that like to design their own models.

MODEL BUILDERS PRIMER – Steve Griffiths
Steve shows us how to get a straight leading edge on a foam wing – likewise, his attention is then turned to the other end of the problem, where the tricks of achieving that perfect knife edged trailing edge are revealed – aileron servo placement in foam wings – top hinging V centre hinges – another thoroughly practical feature for the builders amongst us.

MILLERS TALES – Peter Miller
Like to build – don’t have much time? Peter Miller is a prolific aeromodeller who can turn out a great looking model in double-quick time – see how he does it with his clever techniques built on years of experience and practice.
